All Africa Champion Ryan Phillips Qualifies for Sportsaccord World Combat Games (IOC)

All Africa Champion!

WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organizations) is the biggest amateur kickboxing association currently in the World and is also the only Kickboxing body that is part of Sportsaccord World Combat Games under the patronage of IOC (International Olympic Committee). In order to ensure the worldwide participation in the most important event for our Sport as Combat Sports, WAKO will have qualification in each continent during 2012. The quota of athletes from each continent will be 4 from Europe, 2 from Asia/Oceania, 1 from Africa and 1 from Pan America.

The South Africa Senior National Kickboxing team excelled at the WAKO affiliated All Africa Championships qualifier for the WCG in Madagascar this past weekend.

We are proud to announce that our National Team brought back 7 Gold, 6 Silver and 7 Bronze and 2nd place overall behind Morocco by 1 Gold.

Our local XKT members forming part of the National squad brought back 2 Gold and 3 Silver. Raymond Phillips, one of the National team coaches, were overjoyed with the performance of the team. He stated that this was the best results so far by any National Kickboxing team.

Ryan Phillips took Gold and was also the opening fight for South Africa.  The win over Madagascar pushed him to the semi-finals which was broadcast live on National Television. By winning the event Ryan qualified for the World Combat Games to be held in St Petersburg, Russia 18-28 October 2013.
