UFC Vegas 108 delivered a lot of action — especially on the main card, but it was the final three bouts of the UFC’s return to the APEX that will steal headlines for the next few days. In the main event, Tatsuro Taira destroyed Hyun Sung Park with relative ease via second-round submission to bounce back from his lone career loss.

Following the event, MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck and Jed Meshew react to the card, Taira’s spectacular performance, his post-fight interview getting awkward with Michael Bisping, and if he could get a title shot next. Additionally, they discuss the two Fight of the Year contending lightweight bouts between Chris Duncan and Mateusz Rebecki, and Esteban Ribovics and Elves Brener, other standout performances from the Fight Night event, and much more.

UFC Vegas 108 bonuses: Duncan vs. Rebecki, Ribovics vs. Brener both win Fight of the Night

UFC Vegas 108 featured not one, but two, Fight of the Year candidates and the four men involved were all handsomely rewarded.

Chris Duncan, Mateusz Rebecki, Esteban Ribovics, and Elves Brener are leaving UFC APEX with an extra $50,000 in their pockets after a pair of Fight of the Night awards were handed out Saturday. Normally, the UFC gives bonuses for a pair of finishes and the best fight of the evening, but on this occasion there were two lightweight bouts worthy of extra recognition.

Duncan and Rebecki clashed in the co-main event, going back-and-forth in a war that left the two men bruised and battered. At the end of the 15-minute contest, Duncan came out on top via unanimous decision.

Also winning a hard-earned decision was Ribovics, an Argentinian standout quickly becoming known for his thrilling performances. Ribovics defeated Brener to improve to 4-2 in the UFC and score his third consecutive Fight of the Night bonus. His previous two came against Nasrat Haqparast and Daniel Zellhuber, the latter matchup arguably producing the best fight of 2024.

‘True threat at flyweight to win a belt’: Pros react to Tatsuro Taira destroying Hyun Sung Park at UFC Vegas 108

The UFC flyweight division took center stage Saturday night as the promotion returned to their home base for the first time since May.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 108, 125-pound up-and-comers Tatsuro Taira and Hyun Sung Park battled it out in a pivotal contest at UFC APEX in Las Vegas. Taira entered the bout looking to bounce back from his first ever loss to Brandon Royval 10 months ago at UFC Vegas 98, while Park competed in his first UFC headliner after winning his first 10 professional bouts and finishing his last nine opponents.

Taira made it look effortless, dropping Park early in Round 1 before closing out a dominant round. At the start of Round 2, Taira hoisted park in the air and slammed him to the mat before delivering a nasty face crank submission to improve his pro record to 17-1.

Tatsuro Taira put his first loss far back in the rear-view mirror.

The 25-year-old Japanese flyweight made quick work of Hyun Sung Park in Saturday’s UFC Vegas 108 main event, needing a little more than a round to lock in a face crank and force a tap from the short-notice replacement.

Watch Taira’s fast finish below.

It was all Taira from the start. A minute into the opening round, Taira caught Park with a pair of right hands to score a knockdown and take control of the action. Though Park survived that initial onslaught, he never presented any meaningful threat to Taira, who was looking to rebound from his first-ever loss, a back-and-forth battle with top contender Brandon Royval this past October.

Taira stayed aggressive in Round 2, scoring a takedown early and methodically working to take Park’s back. He secured a face crank and held on for the submission, which officially came at the 1:06 mark of the second round.

With the win, Taira improves to 17-1 as a pro and 7-1 in the UFC.

Park suffers his first loss in 11 pro bouts after stepping in on less than a week’s notice for Amir Albazi, who was not medically cleared to compete Saturday. Prior to the late change, Park was actually scheduled to compete next Saturday at UFC Vegas 109 against one-time flyweight title challenger Steve Erceg.
